Frederick A. Thulin, Jr., 89, passed away January 7, 2015 in his home in Mt. Prospect, IL. Fred is the proud father of 13 children, 32 grandchildren, and 50 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth P nee Fraser and Frederick A. Thulin, Sr., his wife, Adelaide A. Thulin, and his son, Francis M. Thulin.
He is survived by 12 of his children: Frederick A. (Monica) Thulin, III , Kristin (George) Kocan , Mary (Fred) Schaal , Margaret, Peter (Sheila), Andrea (Joseph) Koshaba, Charles, Joseph (Cheryl), Kathleen (Vince) Testa, James, Suzanne (David Hruska) Featherstone, Patricia (Chris Gizzi).
Fred was an architect and engineer, with degrees from Northwestern University and IIT. Fred was a long-time employee of US Gypsum, and was an enthusiastic leading partner of his own architectural/engineering businesses, including most recently, Applied Design. Among his architectural accomplishments are a structure in Antarctica, many commercial buildings and churches, and beautiful private homes and home additions. Fred has presented papers on building design for Mars and earthquake resistant building design.
He is remembered for his many volunteer and charitable works, including with Christian Family Movement (work with inner city poor families, migrant workers, Civil Rights advocacy), PADS and Meals on Wheels.
Visitation will be Monday (January 12) from 3:00 – 8:00 PM at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd., at Northwest Hwy., Mt. Prospect. The funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Saint Raymond de Penafort Church, Elmhurst Rd. (Rt.83) at Lincoln St., Mt. Prospect. Interment All Saints.
